A total solar eclipse is predicted to occur on Earth at the end of Ramadan 1445 H. This event will coincide with the arrival of the new moon phase marking the beginning of Shawwal 1445 H in the early morning of April 9, 2024 in Indonesia.
The total solar eclipse will take place in the United States on April 8, 2024. This means that people in Indonesia will not be able to see this natural phenomenon unless they are currently living in the United States.
Thomas Djamaluddin, a senior researcher at the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN), confirmed through his personal website that the eclipse will occur entirely in the US.
"The total solar eclipse at the end of Ramadan will occur in the United States during the day on April 8, 2024 American time," said Thomas.
"Here is a diagram of the eclipse event that starts in the Pacific Ocean in the morning, then moves to the American mainland around noon until the afternoon and ends in the Atlantic Ocean at sunset," he added.
He added that when the eclipse occurs, it will be nighttime in Indonesia. Thomas said that the peak of the eclipse coincides with the new moon marking the beginning of Shawwal 1445 on the early morning of April 9, 2024.
The astronomical new moon or ijtimak occurs at 01:36 WIB. Therefore, at Maghrib on April 9 in Indonesia, the position of the Moon will have already moved far enough away from the Sun, about 8 degrees.
"Based on hisab and rukyat, the position of the Moon is convincing enough for the beginning of Shawwal or Eid al-Fitr 1445 to be on April 10, 2024," said Thomas.
