President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) has again responded to the discourse on extending the presidential term or for a three-term term which is still developing among volunteers.
Jokowi assesses that there are legitimate aspirations that he wants him to return to being president. According to him, in a democratic climate everyone is free to express their aspirations.
"In my opinion, it's okay, it's also a form of democracy and the level is only at the discourse level," Jokowi said in an interview video uploaded to his Twitter account, @Jokowi, Tuesday (23/8).
Jokowi emphasized that in a democratic climate everyone is free to express their opinion. He also mentioned the presidential replacement campaign in the 2019 election.
In fact, according to him, it doesn't matter if there are parties who convey the president's aspiration to resign.
"You can also say that Jokowi is stepping down, right, it's also okay to change the president. Is it not allowed to talk about it?" Jokowi said with a chuckle.
"This is called democracy, it's okay, the most important thing is not to be anarchist," he added.
Jokowi also has no problem if there are parties who interpret that he is the one who is talking about three terms or an extension of the president's term of office.
"Yes, it's okay, it's called interpretation. This is our democracy today," he said.
Previously, the discourse of President Jokowi serving three rolling periods in the last few months. The discourse was not only breathed by volunteers, but also public officials.
The proposal drew criticism from the public. Therefore, Jokowi ordered his subordinates to no longer talk about postponing the election or extending the term of office.
