Indonesian mixed doubles pair Rinov Rivaldy/Pitha Haningtyas Mentari stormed into the final of the Spain Masters 2024 after defeating Indian representatives Reddy B. Sumeeth/Reddy Nelakurihi Sikki.
Playing at the Centro Deportivo Municipal Gallur on Saturday night (30/3/2024), Rinov/Phita defeated the Indian duo in straight sets 21-17, 21-12 within 29 minutes.
The Indonesian duo immediately took the lead in the first game, leading 4-0 before the interval.
However, slowly but surely, the Indian pair managed to match the fast-paced game displayed by Rinov Rivaldy. The score was tied at 6-6 before the Indonesian duo once again pulled ahead 11-8 at the break.
After the interval, the Sumeeth/Sikki pair unexpectedly managed to score four consecutive points to tie the score at 11-11.
The Indian pair regained control of the game and forced the Indonesian pair to fall behind by two points, trailing 12-14.
Fortunately, under the coaching of Herry IP, Rinov/Phita managed to find their best game. After the score was tied at 15-15, the 17th-ranked pair in the world managed to secure five consecutive points and win the game 20-16.
Despite losing one point, Rinov/Phita finally succeeded in closing out the first game with a victory of 21-17.
In the second game, Rinov/Phita's dominance remained unbroken. Despite trailing at the start of the game, Rinov/Phita managed to turn the tables and lead 11-8 at the interval.
After the break, the Indian pair was completely unable to respond. Rinov/Phita secured five consecutive points to widen the gap to 16-8.
At crucial points, their opponents managed to reduce the deficit to 18-11. However, Rinov/Phita managed to close out the game faster and led 21-12 in the second game.
In the final, Rinov/Phita will face Chinese representatives Cheng Xing/Zhang Chi, who previously defeated the second-seeded French pair Thom Gicquel/Delphine Delrue.
The Chinese pair won in a rubber game that ended 10-21, 21-19, 21-19 in 1 hour and 6 minutes.
