A man named Craig Wright claimed to be Satoshi Nakamoto. The name is known as the creator of Bitcoin who has never been known for his true identity. However, this claim was denied by the High Court in London. Judge James Mellor said they had evidence rejecting Wright's claim.
The findings were based on a trial filed by a non-profit organization called the Crypto Open Patent Alliance or COPA. According to prosecutors, Wright engaged in industrial-scale forgery to sue developers using Bitcoin.
A COPA spokesperson explained that Wright's false identity had been used for eight years. He also admitted that Wright acted to intimidate and suppress developers.
"It ends today with the court's decision that Craig Wright is not Satoshi Nakamoto," explained a COPA spokesperson, quoted from The Independent, Friday (15/3/2024).
COPA lawyer Jonathan Hough also said Wright had engaged in several deviations. He cited allegations that Wright used ChatGPT to carry out his actions.
One of Wright's actions revealed by Hough is the claim of hundreds of billions of dollars. The money was also demanded from many individuals.
Some parties from the crypto community also welcomed the decision. It is considered to help preserve the open-source nature of Bitcoin.
"We are pleased that the court recognizes the many pieces of evidence stating that Wright is not Satoshi," said a spokesperson for the crypto exchange Kraken.
Satoshi is the creator and author of the Bitcoin white paper in 2008. That figure was the first to introduce cryptocurrency.
With the recent decision from the London court, the identity of Satoshi remains a mystery until now.
